A unique blend of novel and memoir, "Suicide Escape" engages 15-year-old Clarissa Coleman’s mental battlefield as prepares to take her life, too far lost in depression to see a future filled with anything except misery. Confronted just in time by an elderly hiker whose struggle with teen depression reflects the author’s life, Clarissa is trapped between curiosity about the potential for a less troubled future and an intense desire to end her ongoing pain. Nature intervenes to twist an already emotional encounter in unexpected directions. The story combines raw, honest perspectives on depression with uplifting messages that better paths exist to be discovered or created. A compelling, thought-provoking drama that is a must read for struggling youth, their families and friends and anyone battling depression.

Some harsh language included. Fifty percent of author profits being donated to mental health organizations.

Suicide Escape eBook Mike Bushman Carly Jacobson

I recommend this book because it effectively pursues the topic of teenage depression in a series of intimate discussions. We are able to see Clarissa's thought process at a granular and emotional level. Mike effectively captures the layers of ruminating, self-doubting thinking that takes place in this teenage girl's mind. His character validates this girl's reality -- by sharing pieces of his own -- and recognizes some of the ways she got to this place. He affirms the clinical seriousness of depression and compares the girl's ability to affect her depression much like as she would be able (or unable) to affect a pneumonia diagnosis. Mike helps Clarissa to see things from a different perspective and realize that perhaps she has more options than she thinks. Mike's use of language is complete and well-timed; he is able to deal thoughtfully with a situation that transcends time and setting.

Suicide Escape eBook Mike Bushman Carly Jacobson Reviews

A very thoughtful and provoking story of the life of a troubled suicidal young lady who eventually finds success in life. Mike Bushman offers a personal and compelling story that is a must read for all parents, school teachers and counselors, and especially teenagers. Mike's story is sensitive and extremely empathetic to those who suffer from depression and strive for success in life. I highly recommend this book.
Hope and compassion spreads it's way throughout this passionately written novel by Mike Bushman. Depression and low self worth cloud Clarissa's being, taking her to depths her parents and friends could not understand. Mike graciously shares how the openness and experience of a stranger can save a young life through sincere caring and compassion. I recommend this book to parents and friends who find teens or anyone shutting down to offer help. Mike takes the reader to the heart of the rescue. A must read!
This story was easy to read yet it contained a beautiful message. You never know what is behind the next door. This story tells the tale of two lives that happen to intersect on a mountain and the powerful impact. I think it is a must read for any who thinks there is nothing left in life. The author provides a perspective of both the young woman ready to take her life and an old man facing his own immortality. Having worked on a Crisis Hotline, the story is written spot on!
The setting, timing and nature of this book was perfect. Mike has written a book that is full of sensitivity and empathy. Even if you have never suffered from depression I recommend you read this book. It will open your eyes as to the signs of depression and suicidal tendencies. Suicide Escape
Suicide Escape blurs the line between reality and fiction and allows the reader to understand the complexity of depression and thoughts of suicide. As an advocate for teen depression awareness that has dealt with suicide in my family, I found Mr. Bushman's story to be truly representative of the misunderstood struggle felt by victims of depression. I would recommend this book to anyone dealing with depression or any individuals hoping to learn more about the emotional trauma felt by those with depression.
This book evoked so many emotions from me in a short amount of time. Easy and compelling to read with a deep and important message. The author has shared some personal feelings and events in his life to reassure any of us who has suffered from feeling less than worthy that there is a way to overcome any challenges set in front of us. I hope that anyone who has ever been depressed will read this book. I look forward to reading this authors books in the future!

Being a teenager isn't always easy, and Mike has tapped into what so many need to hear. In his clear writing style, Mike's compelling story gives a message that life won't be easy but it will get better. The story is set in the future but it is a timeless one of a young teen's sense of isolation and depression. In this personal story, the emotions of parents and child, their lack of awareness and distrust, the desire to help, and the will to move forward, were expressed via a conversational style that rang true. I especially like the author's life lessons...that one needs to find one's own measure of success and not someone else's. Suicide Escape starts out as a story of despair and ends with the gift of hope. I recommend it for teenagers and adults.
