I take exception with anyone who will pan a new eBook for a minor technical problem, then never return to see if the problem the publisher corrected the problem. Moreover, anyone who has worked with electronic media knows that it is nearly impossible to get the initial upload, perfect ..
It is unfortunate if anyone avoided this well-researched guide because of a technical error, which the publisher corrected as soon as it appeared. All parties lose, the publisher, the author and the potential tourist.

For the last 20 years, the authors, Dave and Joan Vokac, have stayed at my Ashland Inn on their annual trek back, to verify if they are still comfortable with last years, reviews. You can also be sure their reviews are the real deal. If they review a restaurant, be assured they ate there. Moreover, as past President of the Ashland Chamber of Commerce, involved with tourism here for over 40 years, no other authors know Ashland like the Vokacs know Ashland. In fact, I keep a copy of their latest guide on both my bookshelf and on my kindle, for my own use.

I'm planning a trip to Oregon next year, so I was incredibly lucky to run into Joan and David Vokac at a San Diego library author exhibit and be given a review copy of this book. I've been to Ashland many years ago, but until I read this book I hadn't realized that I'd missed the best parts.
The authors haven't missed a thing. They describe the history, weather, livability, real estate prices, educational level, crime rate, and anything else you might want to know about a town before visiting or moving there, along with honest, detailed reviews of local attractions, places to stay, and restaurants.
Despite being the proud owner of a paper copy of this useful guidebook, I'll probably also buy some of their e-books for my to ensure instant easy access. I just checked their author page on and they've written guidebooks for many other places. I gave this book five stars and I'd check their page before going anywhere--the only reason to buy any other guidebook would be if David and Joan Vokac haven't written one. I'm really looking forward to reading their Great Towns of America.
With Joan and David Vokac as your guides, you can't go wrong!
I gave this book 2 stars because most of the links don't work. Until they provide an update to this book with the necessary fixes, I cannot recommend it to anyone.
My husband and I are planning a trip to Ashland, Oregon in October and have found this book to be a wonderful resource in making those plans. We also have the Vokac's The Great Towns Of America book and once again they did not disappoint! The Vokacs have done an excellent job in organizing the information we need. The pictures are beautiful and the content is very complete...everything you'd need to know is there...monuments, museums, restaurants, spas and wineries! Perfect!!
At first I wondered if I should buy this book based on a comment from a previous reviewer, but I took a chance and I'm so glad I did! I don't know what he was talking about. ... the links work just fine, no problems whatsoever. In fact, we plan to buy more of the their books. In our retirement we are planning many trips throughout America and look forward to these books as a great resource. The Vokac's Great Towns of America books are to the USA what the Rick Steve books are to Europe.
