A lot of emotions at play here yet a lot of real life situations too.The football league decides that shifters can no longer play due to their strength and speed over humans. Gabriel, a werebear, lost his semi pro career until the shifters decided to open their own league. He has to put everything he has into the tryouts too make the coveted position of star quarterback.
When he succeeds, his younger brother asks him to go to a bar with him to celebrate. Gabe is tired and declines. Tragedy strikes and Austin dies after a brutal knife attack. Gabe is devastated and blames himself.
The day of the funeral sees Gabe going to a bar, trying to drown his sorrows. There he meets Carolyn who gives him her phone number to call. He calls a month later, his life has spiraled down a drunken path to where he is contemplating suicide. Carolyn rescues him and takes her back to his apartment where one thing leads to another and they have unprotected sex.
Carolyn becomes pregnant but doesn't know who the father is because she also slept with Kenny, a teammate of Gabe's.
What follows is like a real life soap opera. Her estranged husband would like her back but Gabe and Kenny do too! What does the fire hold for Carolyn and Gabe's relationship? Can they be strong for and with each other in order to overcome obstacles and have a future together?
This book is a bit different from Becca Fanning's usual but I really enjoyed it. A paranormal read with a lot of real life humanity.

My favorite parts of the book are the character growth of Gabe and Caroline. To get to the point of trusting and forgiving each other for choices done early on and growing up to work together made this one of the best books I've read this month. BTW I read about 20 books week.
I voluntarily received an ARC copy of this book. I absolutely love it. So happy for the way things worked out for them. I can't wait to see what comes next.
She meets him but his life is a mess. She helps him out so he improves. Then her life is a mess and he pulls her back in but life has more twists to throw at this couple.
This book was just OK. Didn't really like it much. I'll be deleting this one as I won't be reading it again.
Didn't explain a lot. Didn't explain about shifters really. Didn't explain the differences shifter pregnancy and normal one was. Didn't explain her past. Kind of made her out to be bad because she never explained herself or her marriage or gave any details. The football wasn't very good either and was glossed over. A lot of time was skipped too without reader knowing. It was all just okay.
I definitely won't reread this story. The guy gets angry enough that he thinks about hitting her. The girl keeps too many secrets, like the fact that she's married & that there is another guy who might be the father (who she doesn't like because he has a temper). Then when the dna test results come back she lies about that to test to see if he was being honest about wanting to be with her even if he wasn't the father (he never lied to her so testing him was ridiculous.
When the football league drops the shifters Gabriel Randall is at a loss. But when his brother is kill is life spirals out of control faster than he can throw the ball.
Enter Carolyn she seems to be the only bright spot in his life. But is she really there. Carolyn rescues him from his demons one night and dippers in the morning. He thinks it for the best.
Carolyn gas a past by way of an ex husband who just hasn't gotten the nessage. When she finds out she pregnant she drops out of school and decides to go home. But at the airport she runs into Gabe and that starts a chain of events that also spira, out of control.
Can Gabe trust Carolyn? Do they want the same thing? Can anything else go wrong? Please join me in reading this book . I give it 5 / 5 stars . I would like to kick some butt and I don't mean in kidding either. Between Sam, Kenny and Gabe they all deserve one.Enjoy
